The Principal Project Officer (PPO) positions will undertake research, analysis and consultation underpinning the design and delivery of the Department’s bulk water Strategic Water Infrastructure Plan (SWIP) and using the SWIP, contribute to the preparation of a long-term ‘pipeline’ of bulk water projects in regional Queensland, with an emphasis on supporting long-term sustainable regional economic development. The roles will also contribute to assessing and progressing existing projects as required.
The roles require experience in contributing to strategic infrastructure assessment and planning as well as project planning in a government environment particularly as it relates to assessing and progressing infrastructure projects.
The positions will report to the Program Manager.
The positions are until 30 June 2024, with a possibility of extension beyond this date.

The SWIP project is new and highly complex, requiring the successful candidate to have the ability to contribute to the design, delivery and implementation of strategic project planning framework for bulk water infrastructure projects across regional Queensland, and prepare the long-term pipeline of projects over the long-term (10 – 15 years).

The roles are required to work with limited autonomy and when directed, engage with a variety of stakeholders (internal and external to government) to progress the SWIP and individual projects, including assess risks and issues that could impact on the SWIP and associated significant stand-alone bulk water infrastructure projects. The positions will contribute to the preparation of assessments and formal advice and briefings to government and senior executive supporting the progression of the SWIP and related work including certain priority projects.

These roles may be required to represent the Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water’s interests in particular forums – forms of stakeholder engagement – to gather stakeholder views and/or influence the actions of others. This would include engagement with other State Government agencies, Government owned bulk water businesses, local governments and Commonwealth Government agencies.

Central to the work and responsibilities is:

– the contribution of to the preparation of technical, project and policy related analysis on any number of matters: commercial/financial, economic, engineering, water resources, environmental and project planning

– providing advice to internal stakeholders in relation to understanding and addressing complex technical and policy related issues associated with bulk water projects and the planning and regulatory frameworks relevant to the SWIP and specific bulk water projects.
