The Power and Energy Systems Department within the Energy and Environment Science & Technology (EES&T) Directorate at Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a late early-career to mid-career staff member to enhance its clean energy integration, power systems development, and modeling capabilities. This position will support INL’s hydropower, wind, solar, and power systems integration programs. This position has a special emphasis on leading and supporting research on water systems and water-energy nexus topics. This position may involve some work outside normal office hours and some travel. This person can be either remote, hybrid or on-site 9×80 schedule located at our Energy System Laboratory facility with every other Friday off!

Responsibilities Include:

  • Ideation, planning, coordination, implementation, and dissemination of projects within the above outlined domains.
  • Prepare and contribute to technical reports, publications, and presentations at national technical meetings and project evaluations with program sponsors.
  • Support INL’s Power and Energy Systems Department leadership in meeting DOE/DOD/industry customer expectations, achievements and work, and internal reporting metrics.
  • Lead research projects, drive technical capability development, and work with research sponsors. Supports and integrates actions, activities, projects, & initiatives of the EES&T Directorate’s Integrated Mission Plan and other INL research, development, demonstration, and deployment (RDD&D) efforts.
  • Drive and support business development.

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD plus a minimum of 2 years experience, Master’s degree plus a minimum of 3 years experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant science or engineering field plus a minimum of 5 years experience.
  • PhD plus a minimum of 4 years experience, Master’s degree plus a minimum of 6 years experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant science or engineering field plus a minimum of 8 years experience.
  • Fields of interest include but are not limited to Water Resources Engineering/Science, Power Systems Engineering/Science or Mechanical Engineering/Science.
  • Experience and knowledge of relevant industry or U.S. Federal Government sponsors, for example clean energy and/or water system developers, owners/operators, Department of Energy program offices, and/or Department of Defense.
  • Demonstrated technical understanding, research collaborations, and professional recognition in relevant field. This can be demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications, patents, technical reports, or other forms of professional recognition.
  • Demonstrated proposal and project leadership experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • PhD and at least two years of post graduate school experience or a masters and at least four years of post-graduate school experience.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain at least an L clearance to support work across programs at INL.
