Job Overview/Summary: NRGI’s Capacity Development program seeks to equip all stakeholders with the extractive-specific knowledge and skills to be able to play their role in fostering good natural resource governance. The capacity development team helps regional offices and technical staff expand and systematize approaches to building capacity through running global capacity development offerings, advising on program design, developing stakeholder specific curriculum, and collating experiences of best practice. The Capacity Development Program Associate will support the implementation of NRGI’s flagship online and in-person global courses, foster learning between regional knowledge hubs, and support the coordination of NRGI training curriculum. NRGI’s flagship global courses are critical towards its goal of developing informed, skilled leaders of resource governance policy. The two courses include an executive course conducted in partnership with the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford (“BSG”) and an advance practitioners course at the School of Public Policy, Central European University in Budapest (“CEU”). NRGI’s knowledge hub program is comprised of partnerships with universities and think tanks in NRGI’s regions of operation to build partner’s capacity to deliver context-relevant training, analysis and research. Each regional program seeks to integrate cutting edge research into relevant knowledge and skill building interventions that can help multiple-stakeholders improve their contributions to better resource governance. NRGI’s online courses include a massive open online course (MOOC) and an online simulation, Petronia.
In supporting these programs, the Program Associate will work closely with NRGI’s regional and program staff as well as partner institutions. The post will be based in London, UK (a posting in NY will be considered only for outstanding candidates), with regular travel to NRGI’s countries of intervention.
Flagship Global Courses [in person] (40%) – help make sure that our global courses are the best in the world, that they run smoothly and continue to surpass expectations
Definition of participants learning journey: support the definition of a suitable learning journey for NRGI training’s participants, contributing to maximizing our impact on their professional development and potential to meaningfully impact resource governance. This will include supporting the development of specific learning tools and their potential combination towards a cutting-edge approach to resource governance learning.
Course delivery and logistics: support to course delivery, including relations with partners, communication, financial management, selection of participants, coordinating travel arrangements, and other logistics.
MEAL: support with design and administration of course evaluations, distilling, synthesizing and analyzing findings, gathering information on alumni trajectories, inputting and analyzing information on participant selection and recruitment.
Communications: support to development and production of both internal and outward-facing communications materials for both our courses, including updating social media platforms with news, blogs, interviews, photos, articles and videos
Administrative support: providing comprehensive administrative support to course programs, with a particular focus on effective information management.
Regional Knowledge Hubs (25%) – help our regional knowledge hubs learn from each other and continue to grow
MEAL: support with the implementation of the MEL strategy for regional hubs, documenting and sharing lessons learnt, including gathering information on impact and facilitating shared lessons across hubs.
Facilitate cross-learning: support advising to the hubs and lead on cross learning programs between hubs.
Reporting and donor relations: develop material (e.g. factsheets, briefings, videos and case studies) to keep track of alumni and to input donor reporting by communicating rationale and impacts of hubs on alumni learning journeys and the resource governance sector in general.
Online Learning (20%) – Help us get the most legs out of our existing online programming while supporting development of the next frontier
Marketing strategy: support the marketing of MOOC and Petronia, including developing partnerships for effective integration into universities throughout the world.
Updates to course/tools content: support the update of content of the MOOCs, coordinating with regional and global staff as well as with external partners.
Coordination and development of online content: support the coordination of the different editions of the online courses with partners and support the development of new content for existing courses or new online tools.
Capacity Development Team Core Support (15%) – Help our team ensure that all of NRGI has the resources to deliver excellent capacity development programming
Manage our internal training repository and assist with sharing learning resources;
Oversee updating of CD materials, including primers and glossary;
Coordinate team meetings, quarterly reporting, and donor reporting;
Other responsibilities and support to the overall CD team

Other Internal and/or external contacts: describe the nature of departments or groups the position influences or requires support from to accomplish objectives.
Demonstrated Knowledge and Experience
At least 2-3 years’ experience in supporting capacity building projects in an international development and advocacy environment – including support of local partners at a distance, monitoring, and evaluation, financial management;
Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide variety of people with diverse background throughout a complex organization;
Superior analytical skills. This includes readiness and demonstrated ability to absorb new technical content and translate it into key messages and material that resonate with non-expert as well as technical audiences;
Project management skills, including ability to multi-task, work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, troubleshoot and follow projects through to completion, with strict deadlines and without loss of attention to detail, budget and reporting;
Skills in effective documentation and communication of project progress and learning;
Proven knowledge of adult learning and learning progression;
Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (public administration, political science, economics, international affairs or related fields in the social sciences and humanities)
Background knowledge of extractive sector governance issues is desirable;
Experience in the development and implementation of online curriculum;
Excellent written, verbal, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills;
Knowledge of organizational learning theory and practice;
Fluency in at least one additional language to English, preferably French, Arabic or Spanish.

Working Environment: Full-time position, official hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; flexibility required when extended hours are needed to meet deliverables. Willingness and ability to undertake international travel is essential, as is having the legal ability to work in the location where based.
