Post Bach Research Associate (Earth System Data Scientist)
The Hydrology Group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks an Earth System Data Scientist with demonstrated experience in geographic information systems, spatial modeling, programming, statistics, and geospatial data management. The skills may be applied across multiple domains including rapid disaster response, critical infrastructure management, earth systems science and environmental modeling, alternative energy and food-energy-water nexus. This position will actively contribute research findings to the earth system geospatial sciences that address current research challenges in the field.
Candidates must have received a Bachelor’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 required.
Candidates must have received a BS Degree in Geography, Computer Science, Hydrology, or a related field.
Preference will be given to candidates with a background in data science with geospatial applications. The incumbent should have good programming skills, being proficient in at least one programming language (R, Python, Java, C++, C#), and have experience with analysis and visualization tools (e.g., R Shiny, ArcGIS/Pro, QGIS, ENVI, Octave) and geospatial data management systems (e.g. ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Online, PostGreSQL). Experience with remote sensing processing and analysis is preferred. The successful candidate should have good written and oral communication skills and ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a teaming environment. Familiarity with Linux, Windows Servers, cloud computing, high performance computing, and machine learning techniques is preferable.
3.5 GPA or higher is preferred
