Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to help shape the development of the national chalk delivery programme.

We are looking for someone who will work with others to coordinate and support the implementation of the programme so we can achieve long term solutions to chalk abstraction problems.

The successful candidate will be expected to work in an agile way to lend their skills to the team. This is a new role, so there is an opportunity to shape the work you will do.

You will be working with the Chalk Programme Manager to deliver the following:
• support the development and implementation of the chalk delivery programme
• support the development of a network of area chalk leads to deliver local chalk action plans
• to develop a framework and provide technical leadership for area chalk action plans
• report on delivery of the chalk KPIs and work with areas to develop measures for future years
• co-ordinate chalk modelling programme, working with the modellers to prioritise the budget to support chalk assessments and local and national needs
• work with colleagues to advise on chalk policy development
• work with colleagues on regional water resource planning solutions for chalk catchments

The team

You will be part of the Sustainable Abstraction team which sits within the Water Resources department of Operations Catchment Services. 

The Sustainable Abstraction team offers a unique opportunity to provide a national once service supporting Areas to deliver sustainable abstraction for all regulated abstraction.  You will work closely with those individuals, colleagues within the 14 different geographic areas, as well as our wider OCS team and policy makers in the Environment and Business (E&B) department.

Experience/skills required

Essential
• technical knowledge and experience of abstraction management, water resources planning and chalk stream issues
• experience of supporting programme delivery and coordinating with colleagues from different parts of the business
• experience of working with E&B to influence policy development
• experience of technical engagement with stakeholders on water resource issues
• understanding of groundwater and hydroecological modelling approaches and working with consultants on project delivery
• excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, a team player whilst also being able to work autonomously
• positive can-do and enthusiastic attitude

Desirable
• Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (e.g. environmental sciences / geography)
• Experience of using Microsoft Office 360, including SharePoint and Power Bi
• Experience in analysing, interpreting and reporting environmental data
