About This Role: | We are looking for a Postdoctoral researcher with a passion for natural resources sustainability and environmental research to contribute to an NSF-funded project investigating the environmental impacts of development of a biodegradable biopolymer for crop production and how it can strengthen the agroecosystems in Kansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota. The successful candidate will lead the modeling effort to study the effect of bioplastic mulch application on crop establishment, growth and yield along with its impact on crop water use efficiency. We aim to develop a platform that will integrate past and future environmental, ground, and remotely sensed data to study the feasibility of this new technology. Thus, the ideal candidate would have strong technical skills for working with and coupling environmental models and a desire to engage with an interdisciplinary team of researchers.This position is based in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at KSU. This Post Doc will be part of the Climate and Agrohydrologic Modeling group supervised by Dr. Vaishali Sharda and will act as liaison to facilitate interdisciplinary research between our department, Department of Computer Science and Department of Geography at KSU and to work with collaborators at University of Nebraska and South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.For further technical information about the position, contact Vaishali Sharda at [email protected]. |

What You’ll Need to Succeed: | Minimum Qualifications:Ph.D. in a discipline related to water, environmental, and/or agricultural science or engineering.Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with at least two of hydrologic, crop, and/or agent-based models and historic and future climate datasets.Coding experience in Python or a comparable language (R, MATLAB, Julia, etc.).Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.Strong communication skills as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications/conference presentations.First-author publications in peer-reviewed high-impact journals.Experience with coupling models and/or high-performance computing.Familiarity with future climate dataset handling and analysis.Familiarity with irrigated and rainfed agricultural landscapes.
