POSITION SUMMARY
CI Liberia is now seeking a highly motivated Environmental Policy Manager to lead and support its Policy Engagement work.
Under the leadership of the Country Director, the Environmental Policy Manager lead and supports CI Liberia’s Policy Engagement work with governments, partners, and CI network offices.
Specifically, the Environmental Policy Manager will be responsible for researching, compiling, and analyzing public policies and developing positions in line with CI’s public policy objectives. Work with senior staff to formulate policy options, CI position papers, proposals, and briefings and manage input from key stakeholders. Work with internal stakeholders on developing and implementing policy objectives. Manage daily relations with external stakeholders and ensure relevant policy information is disseminated and serves to engage decision-makers and favorably deliver on CI’s policy and conservation goals. Report on partner engagement and policy implementation efforts. Support fundraising and proposal efforts to help secure funding for policy initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Generally, the Environmental Policy Manager will support CI Liberia’s Policy Engagement work with governments, partners, and CI network offices under the leadership of the Country Director. Specifically, the Manager will:
- Manage daily relations with external stakeholders and ensure relevant policy information is disseminated and serves to engage decision-makers and favorably deliver on CI’s policy and conservation goals.
- Coordinate work with the Ministry of Finance, Environmental Protection Agency, and other key policy partners.
- Support CI Liberia’s policy efforts to continue to engage with CI’s Global Policy Leads as well as counterparts within government agencies and ministries to identify and implement key policy actions, including technical support and guidance in line with CI’s Mission.
- Provide representation support to the Country Director with government and partner agencies locally and internationally as is required.
- Enable CI to promote national institutional and policy frameworks for development, that favor biodiversity conservation, and climate change, and to support national capacity for conservation in CI Liberia’s field programs.
- Work with CI’s Global Policy and Government Affairs Division, including the Regional Policy Director for Africa, on various international policy initiatives.
- Organize workshops, including logistic arrangements and content preparation.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position is based in Monrovia Liberia
- Work is typically performed in an office environment.
- Ability to work extended and irregular hours.
- Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate time differences with HQ and the region.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, international affairs, or a related field.
- 4-6 years of experience in environmental policy.
- Understanding of government processes and the overall policy engagement environment.
- Experience engaging a variety of external partners and stakeholders in governments, bilateral and multilateral institutions, development organizations, and NGOs.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex information to a diverse audience.
- Strong organization, project management, and prioritization skills.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Proven ability to work in a culturally diverse environment
