R E C T O R
OF MARIA CURIE-SKŁODOWSKA UNIVERSITY IN LUBLIN
announces a competition for the position of an Assistant Professor in the group of research and teaching staff in the Department of Hydrology and Climatology at the Institute of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Spatial Management UMCS
The competition may be entered by individuals who meet the requirements specified in the Act on Higher Education and Science of July 20, 2018 (i.e. Journal of Laws of 2022, item 574) and in the UMCS Statute of May 29, 2019, as amended.
I. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA OF THE COMPETITION:
– a PhD degree or a PhD degree of engineering in the discipline of Earth and environmental sciences, or geography or geology or oceanology or environmental engineering or construction;
– a significant record of scientific achievements in the field of hydrology;
– scientific achievements after obtaining a PhD degree;
– active participation in scientific life;
– participation in domestic and foreign scientific conferences and experience in presenting the
research results at scientific conferences;
– fluency in the Polish language sufficient to conduct classes with students;
– command of English language sufficient to write publications and deliver speeches;
– teaching and organizational experience;
– ability to work with GIS programmes;
– knowledge of mathematical and statistical methods in hydrology;
– the ability to use hydrological software such as HEC-RAS / HMS is welcome;
– the ability to operate unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs / drones) is welcome;
– foreign internships related to the scientific discipline represented by the candidate are welcome;
– participation in national and international research projects will be an additional advantage;
– ability to work in a team, reach compromises, establish contacts.
II. APPLICATION FOR THE COMPETITION SHOULD INCLUDE:
– an application requesting employment addressed to the Rector of UMCS;
– a copy of the doctoral / doctor engineer diploma or a certified photocopy of the doctoral / doctor engineer diploma;
– a personal questionnaire and CV;
– a list of scientific publications;
– a list of scientific, teaching and organizational achievements;
– description of the research topics that the candidate wants to develop as part of his research activity at UMCS;
– photocopies of documents confirming additional skills and qualifications;
– a declaration of compliance with the requirements, specified in Article 113 of the Act on Higher Education and Science of July 20, 2018 (i.e. Journal of Laws of 2022, item 574, as amended);
– a candidate’s declaration that UMCS will be their primary workplace;
– a candidate’s declaration that they agree to the processing of personal data, in accordance with Article 6 Paragraph 1 Letter a) Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46 / EC (General Data Protection Regulation);
– references, an opinion confirming teaching and research aptitude of the candidate.
III. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
– full-time employment under an employment contract for a definite period from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023, in the primary workplace.

The deadline for submitting documents is July 12, 2022.
The competition will be settled no later than July 15, 2022.
The University does not provide housing.
The mere fact of concluding the competition does not result in entering into an employment relationship. The decision about employment is the responsibility of the Rector of the University.
The University reserves the right to close the competition procedure without taking any conclusive decision.

The applicant is required to provide data as specified in Article 22 1 of the Polish Labour Code and specific employment regulations applicable for a given position. Providing data in a wider scope than required by the regulations is voluntary. For data that goes beyond the regulatory area, the data processing shall be based on the relevant law and consent.
Pursuant to Article 7(3) of the General Data Protection Regulation, for data which goes beyond the scope set out in applicable law, the data subject shall have the right to withdraw his or her consent at any time. The withdrawal of consent shall not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.
According to Articles 15 to 21 and Article 77 of the General Data Protection Regulation, the data subject has the right of access to data, rectification, deletion or limitation of processing and the right to object to the processing, and to lodge a complaint to the supervisory authority, as well as the right to transfer the data. The personal data collected will not be sold or made available to third parties, except for those authorised by law, and will not be transferred to third countries or international organizations, in a manner that would be contrary to the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation.
The data will be processed by UMCS during the recruitment period, and for data processed on the basis of a consent, it will be processed until any objection or withdrawal of consent is filed, and after that for archival purposes, in accordance with UMCS’ procedures, and for the purposes, for the period and in the scope required by law to secure any claims.
