The Department of Geography at the National University of Singapore invites applications for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position on the Educator Track. The track aims to attract, nurture, and retain suitably qualified and highly effective faculty members who approach teaching as scholarly practice, and who therefore focus on and are passionate about excellence in teaching as a means of supporting student learning. The appointment will begin in January 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter for a period of three years with the possibility of extension.

The candidate should have a PhD and a proven record of excellent teaching for advanced modules in GIS, Internet Geography and/or Spatial analysis of big data. A keen interest in carrying out pedagogical and disciplinary research will also be an advantage. Preference will be given to candidates who combine expertise in a relevant area of human geography with experience in digital technologies that are often internet-based and that are transforming the ways in which people visualise and interact with the world, providing enhanced opportunities for many while also, potentially, more deeply entrenching inequalities for others. Potential areas of overlap between human geography and digital technologies of relevance to this advertised opportunity include economics and finance, knowledge and culture, politics and governance, security, well-being, inequality and urban informatics (i.e. smart cities).

The successful applicant will be required to contribute at least two modules in the Department's MSc Applied GIS (http://www.fas.nus.edu.sg/geog/graduate/msc-in-applied-gis.html), in addition to contributing to teaching in at least two other undergraduate modules.

Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience. The appointee (according to whether s/he is a Singaporean, permanent resident of Singapore or other nationality) may also enjoy some or all of the following benefits: subsidised housing, medical and leave benefits and relocation assistance.

Application review will begin on 15 May 2019 until a suitable candidate is identified. Candidates should send their letter of application detailing all teaching and research experience, brief outlines of two, MSc-level modules they would be interested in teaching as part of the Department's MSc Applied GIS, a short research statement, full curriculum vitae, and names and contact details of three referees to: Ms. WONG Lai Wa, Department of Geography, National University of Singapore, 1 Arts Link, Singapore 117570, or email at . Informal enquiries about the post should be directed to the Chair of the Search Committee, Associate Professor Chen-Chieh FENG ( ).
