As a result of a recent expansion in our research portfolio we are expanding our research team around the social and behavioural aspects of water and wastewater services. To support this growth, we are recruiting a Research Fellow with the skills to develop new understandings in these areas. The post provides an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to deliver pioneering research that changes thinking and practice around the complex relationships between individuals, communities, and the wider water and wastewater sector.

The successful candidate will play an influential role in delivering new knowledge as part of several funded international research projects. You will develop research activities that explore attitudes and behaviours towards innovative water and wastewater systems (including circular economy models, smart systems / internet of things.). Beyond that you will also support the development of a growing research area around perceptions and behaviours in the context of water and wastewater, and help deliver high quality knowledge dissemination activities via effective written and oral communication skills. There will be extensive opportunities for international networking, collaboration, and overseas travel.

You will have a PhD (or close to completion), or equivalent degree, in environmental psychology, human geography, or a similar field, with particular emphasis on sustainable behaviours. You will also have a track record of successful research project delivery in a relevant field, and experience of disseminating research outputs through conferences and other channels. A track record of peer-reviewed publications on relevant topics, or strong potential to develop one, would be an asset. Your experience will have given you an appreciation of the challenges facing the water and wastewater sector in the UK and Europe. You will also have a sound understanding of the practice of social science enquiry, particularly of quantitative methods and analysis techniques.

You must have excellent project and time management skills to ensure milestones and deliverables are achieved to time and to high quality, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. You must also be comfortable and confident dealing with senior colleagues, international research partners and research sponsors.
