EDF’s Supply Chain team is focused on making everyday products safer and healthier, by improving the way they are designed, produced, distributed, and consumed. The Project Manager will join the team focused on making our food, and the global agricultural systems that produce it, more sustainable. The Project Manager will focus their efforts on corporate relationship management, goal setting, and project implementation that aligns with EDF’s strategic plan.
In particular, the Project Manager will lead the project management of EDF’s work with partner Tyson Foods. The Project Manager will work with Tyson Foods and other corporate partners to build fertilizer optimization and soil health practices into commodity supply chains, and to assess opportunities for engagement on other water quality and climate issues. The incumbent will also engage other key stakeholders across the agricultural supply chain, such as grain aggregators, fertilizer retailers, service providers, industry groups, and NGOs. In addition, he or she will complete research and analysis on corporate environmental trends and prospects for expanding strategic efforts with animal agriculture companies. The Project Manager will report to EDF’s Manager of Supply Chain while working closely with EDF’s Director of Supply Chain, based in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Specifically, the Project Manager will:
- Manage the day-to-day execution of our work with Tyson Foods
- Work with senior Supply Chain staff and EDF’s Ecosystems program to further develop and refine the strategy for engagement and success in the food and agriculture industry.
- Pursue and continue to develop collaborative relationships with companies in the domestic grain supply chain, to catalyze ambitious sustainable sourcing projects, foster connections between projects and other major players in the agricultural supply chain, and continually drive collaborating companies towards ambitious environmental goals.
- Work with EDF Supply Chain staff and the EDF Ecosystems to identify and develop strategic relationships with key agriculture stakeholder partners to advance our market-focused work.
- Analyze the climate and water quality impacts of the animal agriculture sector and work with our partners on creative initiatives to further expand their work on being industry leaders in sustainable agriculture.
- Develop and execute work plans, negotiate project agreements and scopes of work, identify necessary resources, and manage project work and deliverables.
- Build relationships internal and external to EDF that establish the incumbent as an expert and leader on the sustainable agriculture, with the purpose of multiplying the impact of our outreach and the success of EDF collaborations.
- Maintain expert knowledge of the scope and breadth of the program’s activities to participate effectively in science team, policy team, and communications team discussions.
- In addition to these responsibilities, the incumbent will play an integral role in other activities including fundraising, evaluating and recommending new project ideas; disseminating and communicating project results; and being a team player in the development of a vibrant and entrepreneurial program.
We are seeking an individual with direct experience in successful project management in business, supply chain, agriculture, or water quality and relevant graduate-level education and/or experience. Understanding of food/agricultural and environmental sectors is important. In addition, the general qualifications for this position are:
- At least three years of experience in project management, exceptional personal organization and attention to detail.
- Experience working on agricultural conservation issues, with a preference for experience working with members of the agricultural community and an understanding of the US commodity agricultural supply chain, including key actors and incentives.
- A working knowledge of the current theory and practice of corporate sustainability and the role business can play in solving environmental problems.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and experience.
- Strong analytical skills and experience in performing rigorous analysis in support of highly visible work.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience managing multiple work streams and team coordination.
- Sense of humor and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new situations and changing demands.
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of small teams in a fast-paced, dynamic and creative environment.
- Experience in or knowledge in Northwest Arkansas, environmental business, agricultural technology, and animal agriculture, especially beef, pork, and poultry, is preferred.
- Master’s degree or higher in environmental management, business, agronomy, or equivalent work experience is preferred.
