Our Resilience team works with architects, engineers, building owners, insurance companies, and other project stakeholders to address the challenges of an increasingly uncertain, complex, and disruptive world. Our team, hailing from diverse professional backgrounds, consider shocks and stresses that will affect cities, infrastructure and buildings in the future and analyze how we can improve our ability to prepare, adapt, endure and thrive. Resilience services may include multi-hazard risk assessments, flood mitigation design, climate change adaptation or resilience strategy development. Our team collaborates closely with interdisciplinary project teams and drawing upon the expertise of Thornton Tomasetti's other 10 practices to provide resilient, forward-thinking solutions for buildings and organizations.
Thornton Tomasetti is seeking a passionate team player to join our Resilience team as an intern to assist with a variety of Resilience projects, ranging from multi-hazard risk assessments to design consulting services of buildings and infrastructure systems throughout the greater New York City area and beyond. This person will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of staff engineers and architects to provide assistance on a variety of tasks for active resilience-focused projects.
While project work can vary greatly from day to day, typical tasks may include the following:
- Research and analysis of the latest climate and resilience-related academic studies
- Analysis of natural and man-made shocks and stresses
- On-site survey, investigation, and documentation of building conditions
- 2D drafting in AutoCAD
- Analysis and design of architectural or structural systems, with possible assistance on mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or plumbing systems
- Review of project drawings and related documents
- Code research
- Powerpoint presentation preparation
- Report preparation
- Assistance in project administration
- Construction observation
Students should be familiar and comfortable with Microsoft Suite programs (i.e. Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and CAD programs (i.e. AutoCAD). Familiarity with any of the following programs is a plus, but is not required:
- Structural analysis programs
