Environmental Analyst (Watershed/GIS Specialist)
The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) and the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program (NBEP) are seeking an experienced and creative Watershed/GIS Specialist to lead programs and projects related to the implementation of NBEP’s Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) for restoring and protecting the Narragansett Bay and its bi-state watershed. Created in 1987, the NBEP is one of 28 National Estuary Programs designated pursuant to Section 320 of the federal Clean Water Act.
The Watershed/GIS Specialist offers a unique opportunity both to lead the NBEP’s successful Geographic Information System (GIS) program and to develop and manage existing and new technical projects that advance the health and resilience of the Narragansett Bay watershed. Will lead the management of environmental data and the creation, analysis, and mapping of GIS data for the Narragansett Bay watershed. Will provide oversight or input for the development of the CCMP, Status and Trends Report, competitive grant processes, watershed partnership and restoration efforts, and other technical materials. May assist with a wide range of environmental issues, according to program needs and the incumbent’s areas of expertise, which may include facilitation and partnership-building, watershed protection and restoration, climate change and resilience, stormwater management, and environmental data.
The successful candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, natural science, resource management, biology, ecology, chemistry, or a related field along with related professional experience. Advanced knowledge and/or training in GIS and proven ability to conceive and lead complex GIS efforts required. Experience with estuarine science and management, particularly in areas of water quality and quantity, watershed management, and/or estuarine ecology. Demonstrated ingenuity, a commitment to collaboration, and project management skills a plus.
