Work­ing field

The pos­i­tion is part of the pro­ject AQUATAG "Dynam­ics, eco­lo­gical effects, social sig­ni­fic­ance and sus­tain­able man­age­ment" fun­ded by the Ger­man Fed­eral Min­istry of Edu­ca­tion and Research (BMBF). AQUATAG is an inter­dis­cip­lin­ary research pro­ject that aims at bring­ing together eco­lo­gical and eco­nomic inter­re­la­tions in the field of recre­ational water use. The pro­ject con­siders inter­ac­tions between leis­ure uses, con­di­tion and attract­ive­ness of water bod­ies, eco­lo­gical effects as well as con­flicts of use and object­ives, and uses data from social media, pop­u­la­tion sur­veys, field sur­veys. The con­tent of the pro­ject will be developed in close exchange with rel­ev­ant leis­ure and envir­on­mental asso­ci­ations and author­it­ies. 
The pro­ject is car­ried out in cooper­a­tion with the Leib­niz Insti­tute for Fresh­wa­ter Eco­logy and Inland Fish­er­ies (IGB), the Uni­versity of Duis­burg-Essen, the TU Dresden, the imug Insti­tute at the Leib­niz Uni­versity of Han­nover and the Oberen Naturs­chutzbe­hörde im Regier­ung­s­präsidium Kas­sel. 
The cent­ral task of the pos­i­tion will be to develop the pop­u­la­tion sur­veys and eval­u­ate the data col­lec­ted together with other pro­ject part­ners. In par­tic­u­lar, dis­crete choice mod­els will be used to ana­lyse a) observed beha­viour (revealed pref­er­ences) such as vis­it­ing recre­ation sites (e.g., a spe­cific water body) and b) stated pref­er­ences with regard to the qual­ity of recre­ation sites (e.g. water qual­ity, biod­iversity). The pos­sib­il­ity to pre­pare a dis­ser­ta­tion is given.

Require­ments

  • Suc­cess­fully com­pleted uni­versity degree (Mas­ter, Dip­lom or equi­val­ent) in eco­nom­ics or a related field of study with above-aver­age grades
  • Research interest in the field of eco­nomic valu­ation, in par­tic­u­lar choice exper­i­ments and good know­ledge of eco­no­met­rics
  • Will­ing­ness for inter­dis­cip­lin­ary cooper­a­tion
  • Good com­mand of Ger­man and Eng­lish (spoken and writ­ten lan­guage)
  • Good know­ledge of stat­ist­ical soft­ware (e.g. Stata, R) is advant­age­ous
