Researcher in Environmental Economics (AQUATAG)
The position is part of the project AQUATAG "Dynamics, ecological effects, social significance and sustainable management" funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). AQUATAG is an interdisciplinary research project that aims at bringing together ecological and economic interrelations in the field of recreational water use. The project considers interactions between leisure uses, condition and attractiveness of water bodies, ecological effects as well as conflicts of use and objectives, and uses data from social media, population surveys, field surveys. The content of the project will be developed in close exchange with relevant leisure and environmental associations and authorities.
The project is carried out in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB), the University of Duisburg-Essen, the TU Dresden, the imug Institute at the Leibniz University of Hannover and the Oberen Naturschutzbehörde im Regierungspräsidium Kassel.
The central task of the position will be to develop the population surveys and evaluate the data collected together with other project partners. In particular, discrete choice models will be used to analyse a) observed behaviour (revealed preferences) such as visiting recreation sites (e.g., a specific water body) and b) stated preferences with regard to the quality of recreation sites (e.g. water quality, biodiversity). The possibility to prepare a dissertation is given.
- Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in economics or a related field of study with above-average grades
- Research interest in the field of economic valuation, in particular choice experiments and good knowledge of econometrics
- Willingness for interdisciplinary cooperation
- Good command of German and English (spoken and written language)
- Good knowledge of statistical software (e.g. Stata, R) is advantageous
