11 Early Stage Researchers (PhDs) at various partners institutions in the European Training Network P-TRAP (Diffuse phosphorus input to surface waters – new concepts in removal, recycling and management)

Flux of phosphate (P) from agricultural areas to surface waters is wasting a resource which is becoming scarce and is in conflict with the principles of a circular economy. Enhanced loading of surface water with P is the main cause for eutrophication and presents a key challenge in meeting the objectives of the EU Water Framework Directive. P-TRAP as a European H2020 project targets both problems and develops new methods and approaches to trap P in drained agricultural areas and in the sediments of eutrophic lakes.

The European Training Network P-TRAP involves 9 academic partners and 7 companies in Germany, The United Kingdom, Switzerland, Spain, Belgium, Austria and The Netherlands. The consortium offers 11 PhD positions and is looking for highly motivated candidates, with a strong background in fields requested for the individual projects and excellent English language skills (spoken and written). A unique feature of ETN’s is the combination of research and training units, which includes the opportunity to perform secondments of several weeks or months at the facilities of other consortium members. Candidates will benefit from a dedicated training program in the various fields of expertise of the consortium members and also from this network of internationally recognised scientists and private companies. Candidates must be willing to travel abroad for secondments and measurement campaigns, and to present their research to an international research community. As this project requires close collaboration within the consortium, candidates are expected to be team players. MSCA-ETN projects are part of Horizon 2020 and offer attractive salaries and working conditions following the conditions as described in the respective work programmes.
