SAGE Engineers, Inc. is a California-certified Small Business providing engineering and geological design services for water resources, hydropower, and critical infrastructure projects. Our team includes geostructural engineers, as well as geotechnical, electrical, mechanical, structural, and civil engineers, and engineering geologists. SAGE’s core business includes analysis and design of infrastructure projects associated with water supply and flood control, including dams, canals, flumes, pipelines, siphons, pumping stations, spillways, flood-control channels, roads, and bridges. Summary/Objective

Based in our Oakland, CA office, the Senior GIS Analyst and Cartographer will build SAGE’s GIS practice by supporting existing projects and developing new GIS projects that are aligned with SAGE’s service areas. The successful candidate will develop, maintain, and lead the GIS program, and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to execute projects of varying size and complexity. Responsibilities include interacting with clients; collaborating with project teams; maintaining project budgets, schedules, and deliverables; managing and conducting technical work; and preparing and reviewing deliverables. This is a great opportunity to build the GIS program and team to help SAGE deliver quality work on time and on budget.

Essential Functions
  • Build, manage, and direct the GIS Group, including managing GIS systems and developing/maintaining technical procedures, and managing staff
  • Work with project engineers and geologists to set priorities, assign and monitor GIS work, maintain records and documentation, prepare reports, and effectively perform GIS functions to achieve project goals and objectives
  • Provide GIS related guidance and assistance to project teams
  • Creative production of high quality maps and figures using ESRI and Adobe Creative Suite software packages
  • Develop standards for presentation of data, including metadata documentation.
  • Process data, including LiDAR, thermal infrared and digital multi-spectral imagery among others
  • Develop and analyze 3D models

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will build the GIS program and supervise staff.

Required Education and Experience

  • BS degree in geography, engineering, geology, computer science, or related field
  • 10 to 15 years of experience using GIS in engineering, geologic, and seismic hazard applications, with increasing technical and management responsibility
  • GIS Professional (GISP) certification
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Extensive knowledge of publicly available data source and maps
  • Knowledge in locating, identifying, and validating essential GIS data and information
  • Capability to convey GIS and spatial information to non-technical people
  • Expert user ArcGIS 10.3 or newer
  • Knowledge of additional ESRI or on-ESRI GIS products
  • Knowledge of database software such as Microsoft Access or equivelant
  • Familiarity with Agisoft PhotoScan or similar Photogrammetry processing software
  • Attention to detail and delivery of high quality work

  • Knowledge of drone imagery collection and processing
Travel
  • Limited travel, 10% primarily local trips between SAGE office locations
  • Occasional field work with overnight travel may be required
