About the Role
Management of Disaster Risk and Societal Resilience (MADIS) is an internationally funded project through Belmont Forum and EPSRC. Our project partners include Penn State University in the USA and University of São Paulo in Brazil. MADIS aims to address the dearth of knowledge on the interaction and interdependencies between different risk, resilience and vulnerability indices and their relationship to the impacts of droughts. In particular, we would like to improve the representation of institutional, infrastructural (with a specific focus on energy infrastructure), societal dimensions in drought risk analysis. Currently, we have two roles to fulfil for this project. While the other role will focus on analysing governance aspects using social science methods, this role will develop an agent-based model to assess the effectiveness of different governance structures and different renewable energy policy goals to respond to disasters and the resulting economic, social and environmental impacts on different stakeholders and communities. The model we develop will be applied and validated in selected African partner countries through primary research via online surveys and expert workshops and interviews.
You will be educated to doctoral level in the development of agent-based models to analyse governance issues, ideally related to disaster risk management. With excellent team-working and inter-personal skills, you will have peer reviewed journal publication record.
