In association with the DFG-Research Training Group “Natural Hazards and Risks in a Changing World” (NatRiskChange, GRK 2043) and the Alexander-von-Humboldt-Professorship “Analysis of Hydrological Systems”, the University of Potsdam now offers the following position to be filled as soon as possible:

The salary is determined by the collective bargaining agreement for public employees in Germany (TV-L 13). The position is for 40 hours per week (100% of a full-time contract). This is a temporary position limited to March 31, 2024 in accordance with Section 2 subsection 1 of the Fixed-Term Employment Contracts in Science and Research Act (WissZeitVG). If applicable, there is the possibility of an extension if the personal and tariff requirements are met. The successful candidate will be based at the Institute of Environmental Science and Geography at University of Potsdam.

Responsibilities:

The Postdoc is expected to fulfill the following tasks:

  • Establishment and coordination of the new „Potsdam Research Hub on Water, Environment and Society“ at the Institute of Environmental Science and Geography; including community building activities, development of a Hub website and communication with researchers, decision makers and the general public on the topic of water
  • Scientific coordination of the Research Training Group “Natural Hazards and Risks in a Changing World” (NatRiskChange), including the organization of the qualification program with task forces on recent extreme events, mentoring of PhD-candidates, reporting, public outreach (using e.g. website, Twitter) and communication with all partners, the funder (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft DFG) as well as the administration
  • Preparation of scientific lectures, workshops and international conferences
  • Conducting own research on water-related extremes

Qualifications:

Preferred are postdoctoral scientists with a PhD and master’s degree in water-related topics. Interests in water-related and societally relevant research questions as well as the willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team are essential. Fluency in German and English (speaking and writing), as well as good communication and coordination skills are expected. First experiences and successes with scientific coordination are an asset.
