Normal Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Project Coordinator is responsible for supporting the overall development of the project. Assists with project design, management, and implementation. Promotes the project and serves as liaison between the project and contacts internal and external to the University. Position may also supervise students, provide general office assistance, create promotional materials, and assist in the development of other potential projects.

Additional Department Summary: The Alabama Water Institute (AWI) is one of The University of Alabama’s four research institutes. AWI focuses on basic and applied research efforts to sustain waterways, marshes, estuaries and coastal areas. It provides a forum for interdisciplinary research and education and brings together university researchers, students and staff to foster collaboration and a broad interdisciplinary focus on water issues that face our world today. AWI-affiliated researchers specialize in water security and quality, remote sensing, hydrological modeling, biodiversity, watershed management and human health through synergies with existing centers and the creation of new centers under the umbrella of AWI.

The Project Coordinator will assist with project management and implementation. The incumbent will promote the project and serve as the liaison between all internal and external partners. The Coordinator will assist the principal investigator (PI) with scheduling, logistics planning, internal communication, establishing and upkeeping of internal listservs, recording and archiving of meeting notes. The incumbent will also support the PI with adhering to federal reporting requirements (i.e. NEPA). The Project Coordinator will maintain regular communication with all research partners, scientists and advisory boards.

Continuation in this position is contingent upon availability of external funding derived from research programs or specific projects.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience.

Skills and Knowledge: Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Also required are computer skills, not limited to spreadsheet applications, personal computing networks, and internet software. Must have the ability to work effectively under stress and high levels of activity. The incumbent must be detail oriented and manage details to meet deadlines. Advanced critical thinking skills. Strong leadership, facilitation and collaboration skills. Anticipates and plans proactively for known deadlines and annual cycles.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with managing large-scale research projects preferred.
