Empa – the place where innovation starts
Empa is the research institute for materials science and technology of the ETH Domain and conducts cutting-edge research for the benefit of industry and the well-being of society.
In line with Empa’s mission, the Technology and Society Laboratory (TSL) creates and transfers knowledge to support the transition to a more sustainability society. In particular, TSL analyses novel materials and emerging technology applications with a focus on associated material, energy stocks and flows, to evaluate them with regard to both natural environment and societal constraints.
Within TSL, the Advancing Life Cycle Assessment Group (ALCA), is looking for aScientist or a PostDoc (80-100%) taking care of LCA-related modelling activi-ties within the just granted Innosuisse project “Reinvent” as well as the on-going Horizon 2020 project “Waste2Fresh”.
The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
The Innosuisse project “Reinvent” (2022-2024) aims to develop a new digital service in the Swiss steel supply chain in order to leverage the economic and ecological potential across the value chain through intelligent networking.
The Horizon 2020 project “Waste2Fresh” (2020-2023) aims at providing an innovative solution to the textile manufacturing industry to address freshwater resource scarcity and industrial water pollution.
The successful candidate will develop LCA models allowing to quantify the environmental sustainability of the technological development activities. For this, he or she will further develop the LCA method to improve existing screening and up-scaling options, broaden the underlying database and be involved in the development of new footprinting tools in close collaboration with the various partners involved in these two projects.
