Internship: Change Hub, WASH Systems Academy

To inform further development of our learning platform, we seek to undertake a state-of-the-art review of innovative methods and ways to learn using new technologies including artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and virtual learning environments.

The intern will prepare a review to support IRC in consolidating its learning on this topic. You will undertake interviews with training providers and technology companies outside the WASH sector, undertake extensive research (i.e., literature study) and interview selected users of our WASH Academy platform to assess which methods will be most suitable.

The internship is an opportunity to develop first-hand experience with an international NGO. The Intern will be part of IRC’s Change Hub, a department leading IRC’s global influencing, monitoring, and research and learning activities.

Main responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews, documentation and research related to capacity development of professionals including the use of serious games, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and virtual learning environments
  • Conduct interviews, documentation and research related to the application of WASH systems strengthening by participants of the WASH Systems Academy.
    Requested qualifications
  • Applicant must be enrolled or just graduated from a recognised (under)graduate programme. Preferably in a field related to international development, virtual training, capacity development.
  • Applicant should be well-organised, self-motivated, and reliable, with a strong interest in development cooperation and international relations, and the water, sanitation, and hygiene.
  • Writing skills and basic computer skills are required.
  • Good knowledge of English is required, and the knowledge of French is a plus.
  • Demonstrated volunteering or other experience related to development cooperation.

Duration and timing

  • Start date from 1 June 2022.
  • The candidate will initially be offered a 3 months internship, with the possibility to extend to 6 months if the assignment requires this, for 24 – 40 hours per week. The internship will be assessed after the first month to determine if it is a good mutual fit for the Intern and IRC
  • The intern may work be remotely (online) or from the office in The Hague (if the Covid-19 situation permits).
  • Stipend for the internship is € 425,- (gross) per month based on a 40 hours working week.
