DWR’s Northern Region Office is looking for a dynamic Environmental Scientist with a can-do attitude to join its team of professionals dedicated to supporting programs and partners across Northern California. If you enjoy working in a technically focused environment, growing your environmental scientist skills on a daily basis, and helping local communities, we may have just the job for you.  Under the direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) in the Water Quality Section of the Environmental Assessment Branch, Division of Regional Assistance, Northern Region Office (NRO), the incumbent conducts water quality data collection; performs complex environmental analysis, research, surveys, investigations, and studies; prepares draft reports, and assists other DWR offices with field work in the Northern Region.

Department of Water Resources (DWR) was established in 1956 by the California State Legislature.  We manage California’s water resources, systems, and infrastructure, including the State Water Project, in a responsible sustainable way.

Special Requirements

The incumbent must possess a valid California Driver’s License and be able to travel on short notice and stay overnight, for several consecutive days, at field locations.

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, databases, and effective presentation skills. 


Red Bluff has a median housing price of approximately $200,000. Redding and Chico are both within easy commuting distance of our office. Red Bluff is located on the Sacramento River and is 60 minutes from Lassen Volcanic National Park, 90 minutes from Mt. Shasta Ski Park, and just over three hours from Arcata on the North Coast.
