What does the Environmental Planning Unit do?
The Environmental Planning Department provides overall project planning, environmental document preparation, CEQA compliance and permitting services. We also manage Safe Clean Water Projects and provide surface water quality expertise. This is a year-round internship on the water quality team in the Environmental Planning Unit.


• Pursuing a major in natural sciences, environmental science/studies, geology, natural resource management, hydrology, soil science, biology, chemistry, ecology, limnology, or other related fields.
• Coursework experience with GIS, data analysis and statistics.


• Help the Unit conduct water quality studies in reservoirs and streams.
• Assist the Unit with environmental data analysis and GIS mapping.
• Assist the Unit with stormwater compliance activities.
• Assist the Unit with research on various environmental topics.
• Learn to operate and maintain numerous types of field sampling devices.


• Current undergraduate or graduate student.
• Ability to work safely in the field on small boats and Creekside under moderately demanding physical conditions.
• Comfortable working outdoors under varying weather conditions.
• Must be a local student.

This position requires the individual to be onsite and is typically not a teleworking position.
