Purpose of the Assignment

To provide support to WASH section by facilitating all evidence generation activities, developing visual presentations and communication tools, overseeing organization of events and facilitating development of tailored communication materials for different audiences.

Assignment Tasks

Under the direct supervision of Chief of WASH and in close collaboration with UNICEF Communication, Education and CMHN Sections, the incumbent will undertake the following tasks:

  1. Monitor the progress of mapping of water points and ODF status of communities and produce briefs and fact sheets. Carry out field missions to verify accuracy of data and ensure quality interpretation and analysis using mobile technologies. To provide orientation and support for partners involved in mapping exercise (50 days).
  2. Facilitate planning and implementation of Global Handwashing Day celebration focusing on adolescents through street based events in cooperation with local artists including –Song competition (GHD rap), -GHD parade, -Celebration during GHD at identified schools, (total 15 days)
  3. Facilitate planning for World Latrine Day celebration. –Design event (inauguration of the first ODF region), -Prepare celebration, -(total 15 days)
  4. Oversee documentation of the above events and facilitate filming, postproduction and broad dissemination, (total 30 days)
  5. Support development of information material and information campaign for handwashing (total 20 days)
  6. To compile and review of UNICEF partners school hygiene interventions, in field operations, and manuals; review of UNICEF´s Best Practices Manual and related resource materials and oversee production of UNICEF Guinea Bissau school hygiene including those promoting menstrual hygiene (60 days)
  7. Conduct desk research of available materials related to Right to Water from UNICEF and other sources and facilitate the production of the section to be included into the Child Right booklet. Oversee production and validation of poster illustrating child right to water. (10 days)
  8. Develop visual materials to present results of 134 health centers assessment in Guinea Bissau through PP and fact sheets with graphs and maps (20 days)

Expected Deliverables

The incumbent is expected to provide the following deliverables:

  1. Well-functioning dash board indicating monthly progress in water point mapping and ODF status available and visual tools adjusted to different audiences available. (10% of payment first sample)
  2. World Hand Washing Day competition organized, reported and documented (10% of payment)
  3. World Latrine Day celebration facilitated, reported and documented. (10% of payment)
  4. Information materials for the campaign for handwashing available in electronic and printed format (20% payment)
  5. Draft school hygiene promotion materials available. (20% payment)
  6. Draft menstrual hygiene information booklet (10% payment)
  7. Chapter on child rights developed and poster printed (10% of payment)
  8. Power Points and fact sheets on health centres assessment available and disseminated. (10 % of payment)

Qualifications of Successful Candidate

Fluency in English. Knowledge of local language an advantage;

Education

  • University degree in related field (development work, public health, hygiene promotion, human rights based programming)

Years of relevant experience

The selected consultant will have to possess:

  • Previous experience working with adolescents mobilization and support, along with advanced acquaintance of trends in youth music culture, social media and innovative communication channels;
  • At least 2 years previous development work experience in supporting communication projects;
  • Documented experience and advanced excel skills / working with databases as well as prior experience in follow up mobile technology based projects;
  • Excellent computer and handheld mobile devices skills;
