The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Water Engineer to join our Water/Civil Engineering group is a team of 50-60 Engineers and Technicians, working closely with the large international Arup skills base and the 350 Infrastructure London Group that provides design and consultancy services both internally and externally on a wide range of projects including Strategic Planning for countries, regions, cities, districts, urban development, urban regeneration, and waterfront development. You will be working with a range of clients across the public-private spectrum.  You will be part of a small water team that advises clients on a range of issues such as water engineering, water risk, urban water resilience, sustainability, and green infrastructure.

As a key member within this close-knit, growing London team that functions as a global hub, your expertise will be essential in ensuring the continued success and growth of the team via a combination of technical and management activities e.g., designing, client liaison, project managing, advising, supporting, and mentoring.  

Duties will include:

You will report to the Civil Engineering Leader and the London Water Leader and working very closely with technical professionals at all levels such as designers and project managers, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of a wide range of projects: varying from small pre-feasibility studies through to detailed design and supervision of large-scale infrastructure projects. While the provision of Water/Civil/Infrastructure Engineering and Advisory Services is a key part of your role it is also important that you assist in developing our business by attending client meetings, producing bid documentation and general business development activities, but also by taking personal responsibility for the management and development of your colleagues.

You will have a background that will include a variety of skills which could include Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, MECIA, Flood Risk Management, Water policy and Water governance.

Desirable skills

  • Experience in water/civil/infrastructure design and an ability to mentor others in this respect.
  • Prior Project management experience on small-medium size projects
  • Broad understanding of water, climate change and adaptation and impacts on public and private clients.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment and lead multi-discipline teams and able to manage a complex and varied workload often involving multiple concurrent projects.
  • Track record of delivering small/medium projects on time and on budget/quality and success in managing client relationships.


  • MSc or higher in Engineering or similar technical background, Professional qualification (or working towards it).
