What can you expect as Junior water finance advisor 

The Water Resources and Delta Management Department (WDM) is developing knowledge and tools to support decision making on water finance, investment and pricing to implement water security and water infrastructure projects. As a junior advisor you will explore innovative approaches in water finance and investment strategies to assess the financial viability of measures to enhance climate resilience and sustainable development of the water sector. With your excellent conceptual and analytical skills, you will help design agreements between public and private organizations for the delivery of public (water and adaptation) infrastructure services or mainstreaming innovative water and climate solutions for our partners and customers from around the world.

Main activities include:

  • contribute to the development of innovative approaches in water finance and investment strategies, including expectations on return of the investment, liabilities and transaction features;
  • exploring and applying the valuing water principles through case studies in different water value chains and sectors;
  • using and developing indicators to assess social and environmental objectives of investors in water related project support (and eventually leading) the development of frameworks and tools to support decision-makers drive systemic change in valuing water;
  • staying up to date with the state of the art in innovative water finance and new applications for the public and private sector;
  • support other activities within Deltares related to economics and finance.

What does Deltares expect from you:

  • a university degree (MSc or MBA) in economics, finance, business administration or another related field of study, holding a PhD in this field is an asset;
  • affinity for climate finance and water related projects and good understanding of the economic, social, and ecological dimensions of water. Experience in valuing water projects or water finance projects in the public-private domain is preferred;
  • interest in developing public procurement strategies, as well as blended financing strategies that enable co-financing from the private sector in developed as well as low or middle-income countries;
  • contributing to the development of tools to support decision making on water finance in the public, private and financial sectors;
  • team player with the ability to work independently;
  • a good command of the Dutch and English language in word and writing;
  • able to work in an open, inclusive and constructive way proactive and with a drive to continuously challenge and develop yourself.
