Local recruitment: Program Manager

Utah Rivers Council

Utah, USA 🇺🇸

The Utah Rivers Council is looking for a hard-working professional to help us lead Utah onto a more sustainable water path by educating and engaging decision-makers and stakeholders about the opportunities to conserve water and protect Utah’s glorious rivers and lakes. Our organization is a grassroots water advocacy nonprofit that represents the entire economic and political spectrum to implement a sustainable water future in Utah. We are seeking a courageous and articulate advocate who will help lead the dialogue with a wide diversity of audiences to advance our water campaigns.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable talking with a variety of people to advance our advocacy campaigns. They must be enthusiastic about speaking in a boardroom meeting, to city council members, and to legislative committees to advance good water and watershed policy. A willingness to work with and understand audiences from the full political and economic spectrum is essential and critical to working on effective water conservation policy in Utah.

The Program Manager will also help oversee some campaign staff to advance our grassroots direct-action efforts and should have some experience supervising employees. The ideal candidate understands management challenges and is comfortable managing staff remotely in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. This includes administrative duties while advancing our programs both internally and externally to effectively support our mission.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 3-5 years of paid supervisory experience with a bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Good written and speaking storytelling skills are a must.
• Staff management experience both in person and remotely.
• Experience in advocacy and water, natural resource, or environmental conservation setting.
• Comfort in speaking directly with people and in public speaking.

Candidates should demonstrate in their application materials that they have a basic working knowledge of at least a few of the many environmental and natural resource challenges facing the American West. We encourage you to visit our website at utahrivers.org to ensure familiarity with our organization and to better understand our work before applying.

Compensation, Benefits, and Leave

This is a full-time, salaried position with compensation dependent upon experience. We offer a based-in-Utah, work-from-home professional lifestyle which is complemented by in-person meetings and events. The Utah Rivers Council has a generous time off and vacation policy to ensure our staff leaders enjoy the glorious Utah outdoors they are working to save. This is an opportunity to help set Utah on a sustainable water path as we enter our 22nd year of a megadrought from climate change amid our 28-year organizational history of operations in Utah.
