Various short-term consultancies in the rural water resource management sector

Hydroc GmbH is supporting GIZ’s ‘Accelerate Water and Agricultural Resources Efficiency (AWARE) Project and is looking for Contractors and Consultants interested in undertaking various short-to-medium-term assignments for the implementation of the sub-project “Decentralised Water Resources Management & Protection” (DWRMP). With some minor exceptions, the work will be undertaken in the Republic of Zambia’s Lower Kafue Sub-Catchment (LKSC) of the Republic of Zambia in association with four established shadow Water User Associations (WUAs) in 10 selected micro-catchments.

The umbrella AWARE Project is co-financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union (EU). It begain started in February 2019 and is due to end in September, 2023

Hydroc’s responsibilitities specifically focus on the Integrated Watershed Management (IWsM) and Catchment Protection Measures (CPMs) needed in order to restore degraded micro-catchment areas. However, in addition to supporting implementation of the physical works, there are also capacity building inputs required in order for the WUAs to function effectively. The measures intended for the 10 sites, will all be located within the four WUAs’ jurisdictions within Choma, Pemba, Mazabuka, Monze and Mumbwa Districts. Implementation of the intended works will be guided and supervised by the Hydroc team.

The GIZ AWARE Project in Zambia is looking to engage short term consultants working in the South/East African region – individuals or companies – with demonstrable expertise and experience with respect to the following:

LOT 1 – Document Layout Design

  • Layout and design of technical documents

LOT 2 – Water User Association Capacity Building

  • Water User Association constitutions and sustainability
  • Income generation opportunities and business planning for Water User Associations
  • Water User Association capacity building
  • Training of Trainers in the context of grass roots, participatory catchment protection/integrated watershed management

LOT 3 – Financial Modalities and Management

  • Managing Cash for Work or similar programmes for rural communities

LOT 4 – Integrated Watershed Management and Catchment Protection Measures

  • Grass roots, participatory catchment protection/integrated watershed management works

LOT 5 – Communications and Visibility

  • Designing and implementing multi-target communications packages

LOT 6 – Integrated Watershed Management and Catchment Protection Measures in Zambia

  • Thematic writing on the subject of Integrated Watershed Management and Catchment Protection in Zambia

LOT 7 – Lower Kafue Sub-Catchment Management Plan

  • Geographical Information Systems
  • Geo-spatial water resource availability analysis

LOT 8 – Sub-Catchment Water Balances

  • Micro-catchment water balance analysis
