UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results.

UNDP is working to strengthen new frameworks for development, disaster risk reduction and climate change. We support countries' efforts to achieve the new Sustainable Development Goals, which will guide global development priorities through 2030. The key 2030 Agenda principle of leaving no one behind and stamping out inequality is at the core of everything we do.

UNDP focuses on helping countries build and share solutions in three main areas:

  • Sustainable development
  • Democratic governance and peacebuilding
  • Climate and disaster resilience

In all our activities, we encourage the protection of human rights and the empowerment of women, minorities and the poorest and most vulnerable.

The Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) has the responsibility for developing all relevant policy and guidance to support the results of UNDP's Strategic Plan. BPPS's staff provides technical advice to Country Offices; advocates for UNDP corporate messages, represents UNDP at multi-stakeholder for including public-private dialogues, government and civil society dialogues, South-South and triangular cooperation initiatives, and engages in UN inter-agency coordination in specific thematic areas.

As the UN system's development program and a GEF Implementing Agency since 1991,UNDP also supports countries in addressing development, climate, and ecosystem sustainability in an integrated manner. UNDP's Global Environmental Finance Team offers countries highly specialized technical services for eligibility assessment, program/project formulation, due diligence, mobilization of required co-financing, project implementation oversight, results management and evaluation, performance -based payments and knowledge management .

With financing from the Global Environment Facility's (GEF) Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) and Special Climate Change Fund, Adaptation Fund, Green Climate Fund, and donor Governments of Germany, Japan and other, UNDP, together with a number of partners is providing assistance to countries to integrate climate change into their national and sectoral planning and budgeting processes and design and implement priority adaptation interventions. Within this overall background, UNDP is seeking to engage interns to support different evidence based policy making research to the countries that includes data analysis and data science. This terms of reference also contributes to work planned to support countries on integrating climate risk into planning and budgeting through the BMUB funded "Integrating Agriculture into National Adaptation Plans programme".

Within this overall background, UNDP is seeking the support of interns and research collaborators to provide support to advance this technical workstream on impact evaluation and data analysis.
