Extreme poverty cannot be eradicated without universal access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene, yet today 650 million people still live without safe water and 2.3 billion people lack an adequate toilet. It is unacceptable that more than 315,000 children still die every single year from diarrhoea.

From its origins in the UK 35 years ago, WaterAid has become a leading global actor in tackling this critical issue. Working alongside communities and partner organisations across the world – from governments, civil society and the UN to academia and the private sector – everything we do is about getting safe water, sanitation and hygiene to everyone everywhere by 2030.

As part of a growing global federation, WaterAid UK has flourished and grown in terms of its coverage, income and influence with over 720,000 supporters in the UK and a total of £85.5m raised in 2015/16. Ranked number 6 in the ‘Sunday Times Top 100 not for profit organisations to work for’ in 2016, we pride ourselves on our engaged workforce and strong and diverse Board of Trustees.

As our Chief Executive retires next year, there is now the opportunity for another outstanding leader to build on our successes and steer WaterAid UK to new heights in its contribution to our ambitious Global Strategy and beyond.

We are looking for an exceptional leader with the strategic vision, intellectual acuity, drive and creativity to maximise WaterAid UK’s impact. You will be able to inspire and motivate our diverse teams (based in 24 countries across Africa, South Asia and in the UK), nurture our positive culture, and build strong partnerships with a range of stakeholders.

You will have experience at a senior level relevant to working within the international development sector, with a substantial track record of success in leading large, geographically-dispersed teams to deliver ambitious strategies and goals. You will be an outstanding networker, communicator and influencer, with high integrity and credibility.

If you share our vision and values, and have the exceptional leadership skills needed to help us carry out our mission, we would welcome your application.
