Job Description

Assistant Water Resources Technician – Two Positions

– Prepare and complete monthly surface water quality sampling as part of the Provincial Water Quality Monitoring Network (PWQMN) and the Lower Trent Conservation Surface Water Monitoring Program
– Assist with groundwater monitoring as part of the Provincial Groundwater Monitoring Network (PGMN)
– Collect benthic macroinvertebrates using the Ontario Benthos Biomonitoring Network protocol
– Perform base-flow measurements and stream temperature monitoring throughout the watershed region
– Compile and summarize water resources data
– Undertake other related duties as assigned

– University or College student with experience in Environmental Sciences, Ecosystem Management, Fish & Wildlife, Biology, Ecology, Geography or a related field
– Experience in collecting benthic invertebrates and the ability to identify benthos in the field (OBBN Certified)
– Must be willing to work outdoors and in adverse environmental conditions
– Strong organizational and time management skills
– Able to work with minimal supervision
– Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
– Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office and ArcGIS applications
– Valid Class G Driver’s license and transportation to the Lower Trent Conservation Office

– Duration: 14 weeks
– Start date: May 13th, 2019
– Hourly rate: $14.00/hour
– Hours of work: 40 hours/week
Note: duration & start date is tentative and dependent on availability of funding

To be eligible, you must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment; have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment (international students are not eligible); and, have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
