The Southern Catawba Watershed Manager (Manager) will advance the goals of the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation (CRF) in the Southern Catawba and Wateree River basins. This watershed is defined as the waters flowing into the Catawba below Lake Wylie and the Wateree River basin. The Manager is part of the Protect Team and will focus on executing existing programs while investigating new opportunities to improve water quality and resiliency. The Manager will work in close coordination with the Lake Wateree Association, Katawba Valley Land Trust, Lindsey Pettus Greenway, other nonprofits, local municipalities, landowners, educational institutions, and others with expertise to advocate for and restore water quality. Position will be based at CRF’s Outdoor Classroom in Ft. Lawn, SC and Rock Hill, SC co-working space as needed with travel to CRF headquarters in McAdenville, NC for weekly staff meetings and other areas as needed.

Responsibilities

Day to Day Duties:
Manage and execute the organization’s priorities in the watershed. This includes:
Review and draft comments on pollution discharge permits
Collect and analyze surface water samples as part of Swim Guide
Assess and track local stormwater ordinances
Represent the organization at stakeholder meetings and events
Build and maintain working relationships with local officials, state employees, nonprofit organizations, and educational institutions
Assist with programs at our Outdoor Classroom in Fort Lawn
Assist Riverkeeper as directed on other projects in the watershed. These may include but are not limited to investigations, Litter Gitter, Riversweep, Water Watchers and grant writing.
Participate, as appropriate and able, with the organization’s fundraising and marketing efforts as requested by Catawba Riverkeeper staff members including Riverfest
Other duties as assigned by the Riverkeeper

Qualifications

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science, chemistry, biology or scientific field related to the day-to-day work of the position
Demonstrable experience in technical writing and data visualizations
Familiarity with or willingness to learn ArcGIS software (ArcPro, ArcOnline, and Survey123)
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
Ability and desire to work independently
Willingness to step into a variety of roles within the organization
Must live or be willing to relocate within the project area
Must be comfortable hiking and working outdoors in all weather conditions
Must be willing to work nights and weekends as needed
Must maintain a valid driver’s license at all times
Experience in kayaking, canoeing, or small boat operation a plus

Salary/Benefits

Compensation:
The annual salary will be $37,000 to $44,000 plus benefits depending on qualifications. Benefits include flexible PTO, health insurance, dental, HSA, 401k match, and pro deal discounts on recreational equipment and apparel.
