The West Coast Region (Te Kaunihera Whakakotahi o Te Tai Poutini) extends over a distance of 600 km from Kahurangi Point in the north to Awarua Point in the south. The fifth largest region in New Zealand, it is bounded in the east by the Southern Alps and in the west by the Tasman Sea. Nature has endowed the Region with a spectacular environment, with over 80 per cent of the land area under Department of Conservation stewardship.

 Job Description

This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations and line management of all Hydrology and Flood Warning council functions. With a post-graduate degree or higher in a relevant field and a minimum of 6 years work experience, you will bring valuable technical scientific expertise as well as leadership and management experience to this role.

 Desired Skills and Experience

  • Post graduate degree or higher in relevant field (Hydrology, Earth Science, Physical Geography or Water Resources) with a preference given to a master’s degree or higher.
  • Minimum of 6-10 years equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrable technical expertise in a range of scientific knowledge, methodologies, systems, and technologies
  • Staff training mentoring experience
  • Leadership and management experience
