Francis Marion University and the Biology Department invites applications for a tenure-track position in biology to support new programs in environmental science and studies. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts setting. We are seeking someone with a strong background in water resource management, watershed management, hydrology and/or freshwater ecosystem ecology. The new faculty member will help in developing a water quality/water resources lab at FMU’s brand new Freshwater Ecology Center.This position is a standard nine-month, tenure-track academic contract (August-May). Generous internal funding for travel, research, student scholarship, and summer research stipends are available on a competitive basis.

Responsibilities include:

· Teaching introduction to environmental science, water quality/water resource management, and developing classes in the candidates area of specialty. Ability to teach introduction to sustainability is a plus.

· Perform scholarly activities and maintain an active research program that involves undergraduate researchers;

· Participate in faculty governance by serving on department/university committees;

· Provide academic advising for students interested in environmental science;

· Conduct additional professional services as needed by the department.

FMU Requirements: Earned doctorate in biology, chemistry, geology, environmental sciences, hydrology, watershed management, water resource management, or related disciplines from an accredited institution. ABD candidates will be considered but must have completed their Ph.D. by the start of the 2022-2023 academic year.
