The objective of this contract is to support UNDESA/DSDG efforts in managing the Knowledge Platform and developing technical documents and briefs for the Sustainable Water and Energy Solutions Network. The incumbent also will contribute to the quality assurance of case studies based on “good practices” on integrated water and energy solutions prior to their publication on the project´s website. To achieve these objectives, the individual contractor will provide research and analytical support to UNDESA/DSD team in charge of the project. Collaboration with key stakeholders across all participating organizations will be essential in this role.
Under the guidance of the Team Leader, Sustainable Energy, Division for Sustainable Development Goals, the individual contractor will:
• Conceptualize and support the development of technical documents and policy briefs in relation to the different technological areas identified by the network, to be fed into a variety of intergovernmental processes and events, including the High-Level Political Forum and other global gatherings;
• Liaise with network members on an ongoing basis to request inputs for the knowledge platform.
• Assist in the evaluation and examination of data sets for accuracy, clarity and validity;
• Assist in the maintenance of relevant computerized databases;
• Support project communication efforts, including the maintenance and provision of up-to-date information on the network´s website;
• Perform other related duties, as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Knowledge Platform of the Sustainable Water and Energy Solutions Network identifies a number of Technological Areas and Innovation Systems in which an integrated approach to water and energy are used to realize important synergies and efficiencies supporting all the objectives of SDG 7 and SDG 6. Some of these important Technological Areas and Innovative Systems have been the subject of virtual seminars or events conducted by the Network, including: desalination using renewable energy; ocean energy; bioenergy; biodiversity; water and energy solutions addressing climate change; and water and energy solutions addressing health and education. As a follow up to this activity and as an important reference in the Knowledge Platform of the Network, it is necessary to develop corresponding Technical or Policy Briefs in these critical subjects.

Qualifications/special skills
Academic Qualifications: The individual contractor should possess a university degree in energy, sustainable development, environmental management, social science, international relations, or other related fields
Experience: ● Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in sustainable development, with demonstrated proven track record in analytical research and in the development of global multi-stakeholder partnerships.
● Experience in programme/project planning, management and successful delivery of technical projects, preferably at global or international level.
● Experience in the planning and organization of international conferences and events, especially with high-level and technical participants.
● Proven experience in writing project work plans, project-related documentation, or technical papers.
● Knowledge and experience of UN system policies, rules and regulations, guidelines is a must.
● Experience working with a wide range of stakeholders is highly desirable.
Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Full knowledge and fluency of English (both written and oral) is required for this contract. Fluency in other UN languages (e.g., Spanish) is an asset.
Additional Information
The individual contractor will be paid a fee based on Level B, as per SI/AT/2013/4, for an estimated total of 6 working months:
- Payment #1: upon submission of monthly progress report and satisfactory completion of the assignment for the first month
- Payment #2: upon submission of monthly progress report and satisfactory completion of the assignment for the second month
- Payment #3: upon submission of monthly progress report and satisfactory completion of the assignment for the third month
- Payment #4: upon submission of monthly progress report and satisfactory completion of the assignment for the fourth month
- Payment #5: upon submission of monthly progress report and satisfactory completion of the assignment for the fifth month
- Payment #6: upon submission of monthly progress report and satisfactory completion of the assignment for the sixth month
