The Water Replenishment District of Southern California (WRD or the District) is seeking an entry level Assistant Hydrogeologist to work under the direction and supervision of hydrogeologists, engineers, and other staff on field-related activities associated with various groundwater monitoring duties and office-related activities associated with various reporting duties of the District. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Field and office-related duties listed below are intended as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.

  • Collecting water level measurements and water quality samples from production wells and monitoring wells
  • Utilizing a variety of sampling equipment and pumps
  • Sample labeling, preservation, and delivery to laboratories
  • Data logger deployment, programming, download, and maintenance
  • Detailed documentation of field activities
  • Occasional logging of new monitoring well installations
  • Preparing project reports and overseeing detail checking of reports
  • Compile, analyze, and report data collected
  • Review, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of water quality and operations data
  • Filing and data entry
  • Quality checks of the work of others as well as reports from laboratories, process flow diagram, construction of contour maps, hydrographs, and geologic cross sections
  • Perform basic research, and perform technical report writing as directed
  • Performing other work as directed
  • Knowledge of:
    • Groundwater monitoring and reporting activities
    • Water resources
    • Water treatment processes
    • Commonly used software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, ArcGIS, Access, and hydrogeological software such as modeling, contouring, geochemistry, geophysical logs and borehole logs
    • Mechanical skills to perform diagnostics and repairs of equipment in the field

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO APPLY: B.S. Degree in the field of geology, hydrogeology, earth science, environmental science, environmental engineering, or other related field, and 1 to 5 years of experience in groundwater monitoring and reporting activities (school programs count as experience). Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Current valid California Driver’s License and insurance.
