Businesses talk about diversity and flexibility – We live it.
We are the Gisborne District Council and we are passionate about Diversity and Flexibility in our workplace. Flexibility in how you build a career path, diversity in the skills you will learn and the variety of projects you will have the opportunity to work on. We are currently looking for an Environmental Data Officer to join our Environmental Monitoring team and help shape the future of our region. You will be well supported by a team that prides ourselves on nurturing an open workspace that embraces innovation and creativity, so bring your passion and leading-edge ideas to GDC.
What we offer:
- Both outdoors and office work
- The ability to balance hours around family and other commitments
- Flexibility to work on a range of different projects and tasks
- A competitive salary
- A host of corporate benefits including retail discounts, insurance packages, social club etc
- A career path that can adapt as you grow new skills and discover fresh interests
Your day will look like:
A mixture of office and field work – You’ll work with the Environmental Monitoring team to take water samples, manage and analyse the data. One day you’ll be organising sample logistics, and the next you’ll be driving around our region taking water samples. The next day you’ll be improving a data capture process or designing a better procedure to ensure the data captured is accurate. You’ll be working in a supportive team environment, helping provide support to field team members and other data managers.
A bit about you:
You take pride in your work and be passionate about environmental health. You’ll have an eye for detail and take pride in quality work. Ideally, you’ll have a background in science or a related subject and will be interested to learn and understand what the data you’re collecting is telling you.
This is a hands on role so you’ll need to be as comfortable driving around our region and getting your hands dirty with sampling, as you are with sitting at a desk and processing data.
You’ll be an environmentalist at heart and like to improve things. The role requires someone consistent, reliable and someone that enjoys seeing a task through from beginning to end.
