Drinking Water Scientist

We are looking for two Drinking Water Scientists to join the Public Water Supply bureau of the Department of Environmental Quality.  These professionals are responsible for scientific and technical analyses, calculations, assessments and determinations essential to the implementation of the drinking water program in the State of Montana.  Additionally, these scientists:  1) Review treatment specifications, protocols, and processes at existing and proposed public water supplies; 2) Assess and respond to drinking water treatment related functions, questions, and emergencies; 3) Determine whether facilities are utilizing the best available technology, and maintained and operated in compliance with drinking water rules and requirements; 4) Review and implement state and federal statutes, rules, policies, and industry accepted standards; 5) Act as a liaison for the Department to the public and industry on drinking water quality matters; and 6) Function as a mentor and resource for other Department staff, the regulated community, consultants, engineers, and the general public.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences (including physical science, chemistry, microbiology, hydrology, or biology), environmental health field practices, engineering, or a related science or environmental field and three (3) years of job-related experience in environmental regulation, preferably in water treatment.

Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
