What can you expect as junior advisor/researcher coastal hydrodynamics 

You will be part of the department Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering. Together with your team you will work on innovative projects related to: flushing of coastal developments, recirculation and dispersion of discharged process (e.g. cooling) water, impacts of renewable energy like floating solar, aquathermal energy, etc., flow design conditions, coastal development layout optimisation, hydrodynamic modelling as basis for water quality and ecological modelling, etc. These challenging projects demand innovative solutions. By using and developing the latest technologies in this field you will provide the clients with an expert advice.  

Your main activities are to: 

  1. Set up and run numerical models (like Delft3D) in different types of projects, analysing the results and post-process these into clear visualisations and presentations fitting the needs of our clients; 
  2. Assist and advice clients in developing safe, cost-efficient and sustainable designs; 
  3. Carry out research and development projects to develop new and innovative knowledge products in the field of coastal hydrodynamics; 
  4. Assist in acquiring projects (e.g. writing proposals), writing reports, presenting modelling results and translating modelling results to advice tailored to the client; 
  5. Publish your work in relevant journals and give presentations at conferences. 

Job qualifications:  

  • You have an MSc degree in Civil or Hydraulic Engineering, Fluid Dynamics or similar; 
  • You are fluent in speaking and writing in English and Dutch (or willing to learn Dutch); 
  • Numerical modelling experience (Delft3D) and Matlab/Python knowledge is beneficial; 
  • Experience/affinity with adjacent topics, to enhance integral solutions, is beneficial; 
  • You are an entrepreneur and a good networker, you have a pro-active approach towards the market and knowledge development.

The Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering department is formed by approx. 30 enthusiastic professionals working on marine infrastructure projects.
