Job DescriptionThe Agency:  Do you desire a career that provides you with opportunities to improve the world around you?  The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking diverse individuals from all backgrounds to apply for a career position that will make a direct impact on improving the lives of Virginia citizens.  At DEQ, our Mission is to protect and enhance the environment of Virginia in order to promote the health and well-being of the Commonwealth’s citizens, residents, and visitors in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.  Our Vision is that all Virginians enjoy cleaner water, better air quality, and the productive reuse of land that was once contaminated. What you will be doing:   The Department of Environmental Quality, Office of Ecology, is seeking a qualified individual to serve as the Chesapeake Bay Manager  for all activities, tracking and reporting  of DEQ’s implementation under the Chesapeake Bay TMDL and Virginia’s Watershed Implementation Plan.  This position provides oversight in administering two vital EPA grants that fund agency Bay Program activities and sub-agreements with other Natural Resources agencies: Chesapeake Bay Implementation Grant (CBIG) and Chesapeake Bay Regulatory & Accountability Program (CBRAP) Grant.  This position also provides policy, planning, and technical support to the Office of the Secretary of Natural and Historic Resources (on special assignments as needed), DEQ Director, Water Planning Division Director and  the Office of Ecology Director. To accomplish these objectives the position identifies problems and needs, sets work tasks and schedules, and allocates staff and other resources.  This position also: plans, administers, organizes, and oversees Chesapeake Bay Program coordination; manages resources, provides technical expertise, guidance and staff supervision; interacts with state, local and federal agencies on issues of common concern.

Preferred QualificationsQualifications preferred but not required:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in environmental or civil engineering &/or natural science or a combination of work experience and education demonstrating an equivalent technical background.
