Job Advert SummaryRand water is currently looking for a spokesperson to carry out a duly mandated responsibility of speaking on behalf of the organisation, conduct media briefing, interface with key stakeholders (different organisations, government and the public) on matters impacting the Rand Water business operations and its broader stakeholder base.
Minimum Requirements•Minimum Education: Recognized Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) and Honours Degree (NQF Level 8) in Communications or Journalism (specialization in Media or Public relations an advantage). •Desired Education (added advantage): A Master’s Degree in Communications (NQF Level 9) or equivalent. •Minimum Experience: 5-7 years’ relevant experience at management level in a similar role. •Desired Experience: 8-10 years’ experience within a public entity or regulated environment would be advantageous.
Primary Duties•Communicate on behalf of Rand Water and handle enquiries received from internal and external stakeholders ranging from interest groups, the media, government and the public, etc. •Research, analyse information and compile media releases and information dissemination to Rand Water’s broader stakeholders •Handling press releases, setting up media and public appearances, keeping members of the public updated on Rand Water operations •Arrange and attend press conferences and appear for media interviews •Ensure that Rand Water has a media response strategy and mitigation strategies against negative publicity and misinformation to external stakeholders •Serve as the primary contact for internal and external stakeholder enquiries and engagements with Rand Water •Communicate and be familiar with Rand Water business operations, organizational policies strategies and how to position them in the public domain in order to create a positive brand image •Participate in stakeholder engagement forums to build trust and credibility for the organization
Knowledge•Minimum Knowledge: Bill of Rights, Water Services Act, PFMA, CIDB, FIDIC, SANS, ISO, etc. •Desired Knowledge: Media and Public Relations as well as best global practices and trends. •Extensive knowledge and understanding of bulk water services/utilities environment in large corporates. •In-depth knowledge of relevant statutory requirements impacting on the water industry and general government initiatives that relate to the water industry.
