We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate to join our Natural Capital & Environmental Net Gain team. We’re looking for someone who is committed to tackling environmental and sustainability challenges, ideally with an understanding of the concept of natural capital as well as knowledge of relevant environmental and sustainability policy, guidance, and best practice more generally.

As a Graduate Consultant in our team, you will be involved in research and analysis, combining desk studies with occasional visits to client offices and project sites, and delivering projects for public, private and third sector organisations both in the UK and internationally across a range of sectors including water, energy, agriculture, forestry, and transport. The team works across all aspects of the natural capital agenda including natural capital accounting and assessment, biodiversity and environmental net gain analysis, rewilding, nature-based solutions and markets and payments for ecosystem services.

You’ll employ your creativity to develop and support the implementation of ideas and solutions to deliver effective environmental and sustainability outcomes and improved project performance. You’ll also have the opportunity to get involved in our Natural Capital Laboratory – an area of wilderness in the Scottish Highlands where we are trialing new technologies and techniques for measuring, valuing and communicating the environmental and social impacts of restoration and rewilding activities.

When you start with AECOM, we will pair you with a senior member of the team who will guide and mentor you through your initial period of working on live projects and business development proposals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting project directors and managers and wider project teams in the delivery of projects relating to natural (and other types of) capital, ecosystem services, biodiversity, environmental net gain and related policy research
  • Assembling and analysing qualitative and quantitative data
  • Assisting in the delivery of project outputs with direction from senior members of the team including – for example, literature reviews, stakeholder interviews, project reports, natural capital accounts, cost-benefit analyses, and related technical studies
  • Providing day-to-day support in the management and co-ordination of projects including scheduling project meetings, developing meeting agendas, taking minutes of meetings, as well as coordinating the logistical aspects of workshop and webinars
  • Participating in project team meetings, client meetings and internal meetings, including training sessions
  • Prioritising tasks and meeting commitments on an on-going basis and taking ownership and responsibility for the timely completion and quality of work within the project budget
  • Contributing to the development of ideas and potential solutions for more effective environmental and sustainability outcomes and improved project performance
  • Keeping up to date with relevant policy, guidance and best practice relating to natural capital, ecosystem services and environmental valuation
  • Ensuring that health and safety issues are embedded in project delivery from the outset
  • Providing input to business development proposals (expression of interest and tender responses) and continuously improving our service offering to clients

Our Graduate Development Programme (ADVANCE), along with our huge scope of projects across the globe, will challenge and inspire you to make a real difference to the world we live in. Our programmes form a core part of our business strategy globally, designed to develop the best talent across numerous disciplines to lead our business into the future.
