The Centre Nature and Climate seeks to bring innovation and frontier approaches to help the international system be more agile and equipped to respond to today’s challenges. It will do this by helping the international community leverage public-private cooperation, the Fourth Industrial Revolution and systems thinking for improved management of the global commons and building sustainable markets for the 2030 development goals.

The Platform for Global Public Goods (PGPG) acts as a systems leader and platform curator on the environment and natural resource security, the future of food, development finance and sustainable development. The center seeks to bring innovation and frontier approaches to help the international system be more agile and equipped to respond to today’s challenges.

The Climate and Nature team, operates across the Platform for the Acceleration of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), incorporating the nature-related carbon finance component across key communities, building a positive narrative around natural climate solutions and co-convenes the Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) Alliance.

The Climate and Nature initiative is growing the team and looking to add a project specialist to support their work on carbon markets and the Natural Climate Solutions Alliance, contributing across project development, content research, events, communications, and community management. Key work areas include the Nature & Net Zero report series, the NCS Alliance, interlinkages with external initiatives and coordination with the Climate Action Platform and Nature-based Solutions cluster.

Reporting lines and interactions

The NCS Alliance Specialist cover will report to Teresa Hartmann, working closely with the Co-Heads of Nature Based Solutions (NBS), the Head of the Nature Action Agenda as well as members of the secretariat at WBCSD who co-convene the NCS Alliance. The successful candidate will also work closely with partners in the community, including, but not limited to, private sector members, WBCSD and the Nature4Climate Coalition.

Main responsibilities

The role of the NCSA Specialist will support day-to-day operations of the secretariat, community management and event coordination as well as liaising with communications teams.

30% Project Management & Content Development

  • Coordinate secretariat activities with WBCSD counterparts
  • Lead lighthouse programme for the NCS Alliance including members taskforce, selection process and launch announcements
  • Ensure timely delivery of projects and coordinate component parts from inception to production
  • Lead research for digital knowledge products and insight reports
  • Support NBS leadership with fundraising, budgeting and impact reporting processes

40% Events & Communications

  • Support event management for global summits, closed-door community meetings and country dialogues including session preparation, speaker briefings and internal alignment
  • Develop communications and marketing materials across audiences and channels including social content, video & digital communication, web content, op-eds, blogs, press releases and long features
  • Lead the NCSA communications taskforce and liaise with relevant external communications networks
  • Coordinate with in-house event, media relations and digital communications team

30% Partner Engagement & Community Management

  • Manage community engagement, member updates and communications
  • Manage standing working groups and ad hoc taskforces with meeting organization, background research and strategic direction
  • Support business engagement plan, partner & content development focused on creating a demand signal via the NCS Investment Accelerator
  • Support development of country engagement plan and engagement with forest and donor governments
  • Support coordination with external initiatives including but not limited to Nature 4 Climate, Business for Nature, WMB

The successful candidate will be assessed on

  • Clear understanding of the role of nature in delivering on global net zero commitments and carbon markets as an instrument
  • Ability to plan and execute projects, events, and knowledge products from inception to production
  • Stakeholder management: ability to build effective relationships internally and externally
  • Motivation: self-starter who enjoys working in a highly collaborative environment
  • Creative problem-solving and able to synthesize a large amount of information
  • Ability to work well within a team, autonomous, organized, flexible and able to handle a high-pressure environment

Preferred requirements and experience

  • University-level education and one to five years of relevant work experience
  • Professional experience in project or event management
  • Outstanding organizational, project management and time management skills
  • Prior experience working on the international climate action, carbon markets or natural climate solutions
  • Experience of engaging with leaders in public and private sector organizations is desirable
  • Excellent command of verbal and written English; and excellent professional writing skills in English (knowledge of at least one other language is an advantage)
  • Willingness to work in a highly demanding environment and able to juggle multiple priorities
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft packages (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access) is required.
