We invite you to bring your knowledge of the water environment so that you can help our Water Team deliver a growing workload. Our work includes a broad range of technical competencies including flood risk assessments, water quality appraisals, surface water drainage strategies, hydraulic modelling, scour assessments, environmental impact assessments, river restoration schemes, and wetland creation projects.

To succeed in this role you must have demonstrable prior experience of undertaking some of the types of work listed above and, crucially, the associated report writing. We are particularly interested to hear from applicants who can demonstrate solid experience in infrastructure/transport projects, residential/commercial developments, design of water quality mitigation/treatment, design of scour protection, use of GIS to assemble and analyse spatial data, liaison with clients, liaison with stakeholders such as the Environment Agency and lead local flood authorities, permit applications; and a wider appreciation of connected environmental disciplines such as contaminated land.

While the candidate is not expected to undertake flood risk modelling, a working knowledge of its inputs and outputs will be useful.

You will join our Water Team

As our new senior water team member you will be part of the Environment and Health global division of Ramboll, a leading engineering, design and consultancy company trusted by clients to manage their most challenging environmental, health and social issues.  The division has more than 2,100 staff worldwide. Our Environment and Health UK business employs over 250 environmental science professionals in 14 locations and covers a wide breadth of consulting services.  Our clients include UK and global multinationals, local and central government, international institutions as well as private developers. Ramboll operates a flexible working policy, and with this you will be part of an exciting team of experts, who respect each other and work towards a common goal.  The water team is a comparatively small but growing team and the role will provide a good opportunity for the right candidate to aid in delivering high quality projects in a very broad range of Markets, Sectors and client types.

Your key tasks and responsibilities are likely to include undertaking Environmental Impact Assessment including Flood Risk Assessments, and Water Quality Assessments; input to design of features related to the water environment, such as river diversions, culverts, bridges and scour protection; problem solving by finding practical solutions to project needs, e.g. water treatment, SuDS design and floodplain compensation, while having knowledge of constraints such as available space, cost and programme; coordination and management of the inputs of junior colleagues; undertaking, leading and initiating the day-to-day work required to deliver projects while cognisant of programme and budget; strategy/concept drainage design incorporating SuDS; undertaking environmental permit applications; responding to project briefs, preparing calculations, concept designs, reports and plans/figures; site visits and attending meetings; liaison with clients, contractors, architects, regulators, planners and other professionals, and initial preparation of tenders and technical proposals including defining our scope and fee.

The successful candidate shall be self-motivated, confident and affable with the desire to develop as an individual and build successful working relationships with colleagues and clients.


  • appropriate BEng/BSc or equivalent qualification;
  • MEng or MSc in an environmental discipline (desirable but not essential); and
  • full clean driving licence.
