Job description

The Ant Broads & Marshes SSSI, which is part of the Broads SAC, is facing significant water pressures with the climate emergency forecast to increase pressure on water supplies in the future. The Environment Agency (EA) is England’s environmental regulator, and it is our duty to ensure that water supplies are sustainable for the future. The Ant Broads & Marshes Restoring Sustainable Abstraction (RSA) investigation has concluded that a series of changes to abstraction licences are required to protect and restore these European designated sites.

We are now commencing these changes and are looking for a Project Support Officer where your communication and organisational skills are essential. You will provide the team and our customers support, by efficiently and accurately handling project information.

In this valued role, you will gain an understanding of the Environment Agency and the unique environment within East Anglia. Working closely with other teams and departments, you can expect to be involved in any of the following:

•Essential administrative support enabling the team to deliver for the environment,
•Collection, analysis and interpretation of data,
•Coordinating responses to often high profile and sensitive environmental issues,
•Preparation of newsletters and briefings and providing information requested by external customers.

The team

Reporting to the Water Resources Programme Manager, the role sits in a dedicated Project Team focussing on water resources and abstraction pressure across Broadlands within the geography of our East Anglia Area. The team work collaboratively across internal teams and departments within the Environment Agency and partner organisations, to coordinate and deliver a programme of licence changes and provide dedicated resource and specialist expertise to abstraction licence holders and stakeholders.

Experience/skills required

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of environmental issues, complementing strong IT skills, particularly in MS Office suite, databases, knowledge of SharePoint and OneNote.

Experience in either environmental data, business management or project management support would be useful but not essential. You will need to be well organised, have great communications skills, be methodical and organised, and take pride in delivering high quality work to defined deadlines.

You’ll will need to demonstrate your ability and/or knowledge in some of the following areas:

• Being proactive, self-motivated and a confident communicator;
• Working as part of a team sharing skills and experience to deliver the best outcomes for the environment,
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands,
• Ability to work and communicate with a range of customers and partners.

This is 24 month fixed-term contract or assignment to end Dec 2023. Internal candidates you must ensure you seek agreement from your line manager to apply for this role.

Whilst proximity to East Anglia Area is preferable, the location is flexible and working remotely is the norm.
