Reality Labs (RL) is seeking an intern for our Redmond, Washington location to support our local projects with technical support for in air, waste, water, and wastewater. We are interested in a candidate that has the capacity to grow, is a quick learner, is detail-orientated, is a committed team player, and possesses strong written and verbal communication skills. This role will work closely with the Regional Environmental Engineer and on-site staff in sharing and developing best practices across the industry and ongoing learning opportunities. The position will participate as a field team member on a range of projects; specific areas of focus may include stormwater and wastewater compliance, multi-disciplinary environmental compliance including hazardous waste, oil spill contingency planning, air permitting, chemical management, and others.

Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long, and we have various start dates throughout the year.Environmental Specialist Intern, RL Responsibilities

  • Performing engineering work in water and wastewater treatment, conveyance infrastructure, and resiliency projects
  • Review engineering design plans and specification
  • Prepare reports for agency submittal
  • Develop plans and specifications
  • Prepare cost estimates for various water and wastewater projects
  • Support for permitting and alternative analysis
  • Preparation of technical memoranda, reports and electronic deliverables
  • Data entry and analysis
  • Contribute to our growing operation by participating in meetings, training and establishing relationships with cross-functional teams
  • Field inspections conducting environmental inspections and sampling (water quality)
  • Qualitative and quantitative analysis of environmental data

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelors or Masters in Environmental or Civil Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or Environmental Sciences, or related fields.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
  • Experience with or coursework focused on hazardous waste management on planning and implementation of sampling, data analysis, feasibility studies, and remedial design, water quality and environmental regulation
  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Project a plus)
  • Critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong self-management skills including time management and organization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship
  • Experience in hazardous waste management or Clean Air Act regulatory experience contaminated sediments
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification
  • Master of Science in engineering, chemistry or environmental fields
  • One or more years of job experience working in environmental consulting or similar position
