This position is an advanced professional position within the Superfund Oversight Section of the Ground Water Quality Bureau and is responsible for ensuring consistency and timely agency action regarding processing of discharge permit applications, water pollution abatement plans, and associated tasks. This position provides expertise in highly specialized technical fields of hydrology, geology, chemistry, and engineering. This position will perform screening assessments, preliminary assessments, site inspections, and hazard ranking system evaluations; participate in and oversee remedial investigations performed by the Environmental Protection Agency and potentially responsible parties; perform management assistance of contamination cleanup actions at National Priorities List sites. This position will also maintain data management systems, run basic hydrogeologic models, and draft technical reports. The position will assist with planning and coordinating field work events under the supervision of project managers. The position will manage a moderate management assistance caseload of less complex National Priorities List sites; the associated duties include technical review, inspections, groundwater sampling, and compliance evaluations.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has experience in water quality regulatory programs, ground water investigations and remediation, and/or hazardous waste management with preferred experience related to hard rock mining operations and closure.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Science, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Watershed Management, Physics, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Forestry/Forest Science, Conservation Science, Wildlife Science Emergency Management or Engineering and four (4) years of relevant experience. • Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position.

• If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of “semester hours” in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License.

Working Conditions

Executive Order 2021-046 requires all employees with the State of New Mexico to provide either proof of COVID-19 vaccination or proof of a COVID-19 viral test every week.
