| General Description | Seeking environmental scientist (Ph.D. or ABD in environmental science or related field) to help expand our Environmental Studies Program. We are open to candidates with diverse areas of interest, including but not limited to Natural Resource Management, Climate Change, Renewable Energy, Global Water Resources, etc. Candidates should be enthusiastic about growing a vibrant interdisciplinary program and providing opportunities for undergraduate engagement. Administrative duties may be available depending on interest and skillset. We seek candidates with a strong commitment to teaching, scholarship, and environmental leadership. |
| Essential Job Duties | The successful applicant will be expected to teach introductory environmental science, at least one core major course in environmental management/monitoring/data collection, and other elective or required courses in the candidate’s areas of expertise. The normal teaching load at University of Montevallo is 12 credit-hours per semester (3 or 4 classes depending on labs). We also seek candidates interested in conducting research and education programs at UM facilities including Ebenezer Swamp Ecological Preserve, University Lake, the UM Organic Community Garden, and/or the James Wylie Shepherd Observatory. |
| Additional Duties | The Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies will serve as Vacca Scholar for a period of two years, which will count toward the required years for tenure and promotion. The following additional requirements will be expected of the Vacca Scholar: providing one campus lecture or talk per semester; conducting several brown-bag lunch talks over the course of the academic year; and sharing research and scholarship on an environmental topic. Limited funds will be available to the Vacca Scholar for professional development and resources. |
