We are looking for an engaged and ambitious assistant professor in Environmental Law. Are you a promising legal scholar with an interest in interdisciplinary research in the law related to our living environment? Then please apply!

We are looking for people who are interested in exploring how law can contribute to transformative changes to our living environment, with a view to create a more sustaining and sustainable future. A background in European Union law is particularly relevant for the work of the group. Wageningen University is also very active in advising the Dutch government on issues related to environmental quality and planning.
You will develop, supervise and carry out global-level high-quality research in collaboration with your own international network, as well as with colleagues at the Law Group and Wageningen University. You will publish regularly in leading international academic journals. Over the medium term, you will be supported to develop individual research grant applications to the Dutch Innovational Research Incentives Scheme and the European Research Council

Our group combines scholars with expertise on environmental law, energy law, food law, human rights law, EU law, WTO law, intellectual property rights law, and consumer law. You will be encouraged to collaborate with colleagues across these themes in the development of legal research linked to the living environment, as described in our Chair Plan 2021-2025. You are a personable, social colleague willing to balance your personal interests with those of the group.
You will contribute to strongly internationally oriented teaching programmes at Wageningen University. You will be expected to participate in existing and future courses taught by the Law Group in environmental law in MSc and BSc programmes at the University.

We ask

Successful candidates must have:

  • a PhD degree in law with a demonstrable link to environmental law;
  • affinity with WUR’s mission to improve the living environment and related social challenges, and a vision on how law can plan a role in this mission, and the research opportunities this provides;
  • an emerging publishing record in peer reviewed international academic literature;
  • demonstrated interest or ability to work in an interdisciplinary research environment;
  • the will to contribute to the wider interests of the group;
  • proven capacity to develop an international network;
  • excellent communication and social skills;
  • experience and affinity with delivering high quality education at BSc and MSc levels, including supervising BSc and MSc students. WUR offers professional training towards obtaining a university teaching qualification (UTQ).

Candidates focusing on Dutch environmental law – or with a demonstrated ability to build expertise in this area – are particularly encouraged to apply.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will be offered a fixed-term, 7 year contract which, upon positive evaluation based on criteria elaborated in the University’s Tenure Track policy, can lead to a permanent employment contract as professor. Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between €3.807,- and €5.211,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 11). An appointment for 0.8 FTE can be discussed.
