Provides support and research in areas of water resources engineering including watershed hydrological modeling, large dataset analyses and management, statistical and GIS spatial analyses, and environmental assessment. Responsibilities include conducting research to support current projects and to support proposal development. The position requires preparing project technical reports and in publishing academic journal articles.
Job Functions/Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling and spatiotemporal data analysis for water availability studies in the Southeast region of the US, and other regions. Modeling and data analysis are to support on-going research projects and develop new data for research proposals. Investigate potential impacts from climate change on the water-energy-food nexus. As the PI and co-PI, prepare and submit research proposals to federal and state agencies, and manage projects to successful completion.
Assist in the development and implementation of professional training courses related to H&H modeling.
Other duties will be assigned based on TNWRRC’s general operational needs; and supervising graduate students as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
PhD in Water resources and/or environmental engineering or closely rlated field required.
Preferred level/type of experience:
– 2 years research experience, post PhD with experience with proposal writing.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
– Understanding of watershed plan development.
– Understanding of water resources management and agricultural food production (water-energy-food nexus).
– Ability to communicate effectively with project sponsors and the public.
Competencies/Qualifications:
– Skill in hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling and database management.
– Ability of apply statistical models for large dataset management.
– Ability to communicate both verbally and written with sponsors of research projects.
– Skill in technical writing and preparation of research proposals and academic journal articles.
– Ability to conduct multidisciplinary research; and collaborate effectively with other researchers.
